*penumbra report is a digital medium allowing myself, Nathan Maxwell Cann, a public venue for my own personal psychic exploration.  Penumbra Report is the magic lantern casting a sliver of light on the otherwise unrecognizable gnomes, sylphs, salamanders and undines that inhabit the furthest limits of our thoughts.  This is the nekyia or the archetypal descent into the enigmatic land of the dead.  In his book, The Dream and the Underworld, James Hillman describes this as “a transition from the material to the psychical point of view.  Three dimensions become two as the perspective of nature, flesh, and matter fall away, leaving the existence of immaterial, mirror like images, eidola (Greek word linked to both image and soul).”  Is this not the very nature of the internet?  For this metaphysical transformation I am indebted to expertise of my wife, Haley Samas-Berry.

In my writing I am acting as a mapmaker, an explorer of psychic areas, a cosmonaut of inner space, and I see no point in exploring areas that have already been thoroughly surveyed.  So let us unlock the secret door, swallow the key, burn all exits, and go swiftly into the darkness.
